Midterm Exam Prompt

Grandma Tilson said that corruption was the act of selling "the litte silver mirror God propped up in your soul" to "the highest bidder." Consider the texts below; how do each of them address that silver mirror? You do not have to cover the works in order, but you must address each one. You must center your ideas around a central thesis, and create a cohesive essay that supports a keen understanding of college level grammar and mechanics.

The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer
Dante's Inferno by Dante
Maya Angelou's, "Still I Rise" and "Phenomenal Woman"
Linden Hills by Gloria Naylor
Def Jam Poetry (student choice)
The Lady of Shallot by Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes
Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters

If you wish, you add in any of the other texts we have read so far this semester. You have one class period to compose your essay. You may use any handouts or texts, but you must compose your essay in handwritten form.

Good Luck!
